  In this workshop participants will construct and decorate their very own wind chime out of a hard-shell gourd! We'll be able to paint our gourd, then hang gourd pieces, beads, bells, and any myriad of other bits and bobs to complete our chime.

  We endeavor to use easy to source materials in all our classes so participants can continue to practice the skills they've learned even after the class is done.

  All class materials will be provided.

  Summer is a great time to make your own unique wind chime.  We will use prepared pieces of hard-shell gourds, along with beads and bells to make a soft sounding wind chime.  If you plan to hang it outdoors you will need to finish the gourd pieces with outdoor varathane. 

  We will supply lots of prepared gourd pieces, beads, bells, cord, and plastic dividers.  Please let us know if you plan to make a wind chime so we can be sure to have enough pieces for everyone!

  An educational and unique summer arts activity, for ages 7 and up! 

  In this introductory workshop we will learn about looms and play with various weaving techniques. Weaving has a rich history throughout all cultures, and is something we often don't realize plays a huge part in our everyday lives!     

  Our first activity will explore the basic concepts of weaving, through weaving with paper strips. Then, moving onto weaving with yarn, we will use a simple cardboard loom to create our own woven sample. Lastly, there will be several table looms set up for everyone to try their hand at!

  We endeavor to use easy to source materials in all our classes so participants can continue to practice the skills they've learned even after the class is done.

  You have to be "Warped to Weave" so goes the expression, and it's true- you must gain experience putting on warps so your comfort will level increase.

  This class will help you do that by making and putting on a warp to weave a 10" x 18" cotton hand towel. You will begin to weave in class and then finish the weaving on your own time at ACP. All materials will be provided as well as instructions on how to take your towel off the loom when finished.

  Adding texture to a gourd creates a lot of interest in design and there are a number of steps to this technique. The fun is when the texture is dry and you can add highlights to make it stand out.  This technique is also a great way to cover cracks that sometimes appear on a perfect gourd, just add texture to cover it up.  You will make your own design on the rest of the gourd.  

  The teacher will provide the materials you need to do this technique on an area of  your gourd.

  Students need to bring a prepared gourd or gourd shards to experiment with.  Gourd shards make lovely pieces for necklaces and earrings

• Beginner Gourd Art - Make a Bird Feeder

  In this class, you will learn to use both hand and power tools for opening and cleaning gourds. Basic safety of working with gourds and care of tools  will be taught, so you will be able to use these tools on your own. You will cut the opening to make a bird feeder. You will sand and paint the inside of your gourd before using Adirondack dyes to give a colourful surface to the outside of your gourd or you can choose to paint a design.  The outside will be finished with an exterior varnish. Once you have completed this course you will be ready to apply a variety of techniques and express your creativity on a gourd. This class is a requirement for many other workshops in Gourd Art.  

  The Instructor will provide all materials and supplies for the class. Students need to bring an apron. If you have your own dust mask, please bring it.  Bring your lunch, or buy one from the vendors in the square.

Join us for tea and learning the basics of Sashiko stitching! Hand sewing is a great way to set some time aside for yourself and find solace in the active meditation of this traditional Japanese embroidery technique. Sashiko is an excellent way to revamp old clothing, towels, bags and anything else in need of a stitchy uplift.

  No experience necessary, all supplies will provided to make a small zippered pouch.
