In various countries and cultures, the sea turtle represents different things:  wisdom, longevity, power, fighter of evil, tenacity, world/earth carrier.  This workshop will focus on the species called the green sea turtle.   You will learn what gourds to cut and how to assemble your turtle using gourd shards/pieces.  Parts of the turtle will be sculpted using quikwood.  You will then paint it and, depending on time availability, mount it on a piece of wood.  A tutorial with reference pictures and patterns will be provided. You will not likely complete the painting and mounting but you should have your turtle assembled and ready to finish at home.

Students should bring: a gourd saw or carving tool with a bit you like to use for cutting (ie. Filigree), Drill & 3/32”, 3/16”, 3/8” bits, Hot glue gun & glue sticks, dust mask, paint brushes if you like your own, dry brushes – 2.

Instructor will provide:  gourd shards/pieces; quikwood, material used for assembly, paint, mounting stick and driftwood.
