The güiro is a percussion instrument consisting of an open-ended, hollow gourd with parallel notches cut in one side. It is played by rubbing a stick or tines along the notches to produce a ratchet sound.
We will provide the gourd and stick for the class. The class time of 10:30-12:30 will give you enough time to prepare and carve the gourd. You can spend the rest of the day adding other details.
Bring your Dremel or Carver for the class, with your carving bits. This guiro is very plain, you might want to consider some designs you can add by burning, dyeing or painting.
